When you no longer need a broker connection, it’s important to disconnect it properly. A clean disconnection keeps your account secure, avoids unexpected API calls, and ensures that Flows.Trading no longer has access to your exchange data.
Disconnecting a broker is not just “removing a key”. It’s a small security procedure: you close pending activity, remove the connection on Flows.Trading, and finally revoke the key at the broker level. Doing it step-by-step ensures nothing remains active in the background.
1. Proper Disconnection Process #
Step 1 — Close Open Orders #
Before disconnecting, make sure the trading account is in a safe state.
Cancel or fully complete all pending orders.
Resolve any partial fills or ongoing transactions.
Ensure no active positions remain (or manage them directly on the exchange).
Why this matters: Disconnecting while orders are still active can create confusion or make it harder to manage positions later.
Step 2 — Disconnect from Flows.Trading #
Go to Settings → Brokers.
Select the broker you want to disconnect.
Click Disconnect or Remove.
Confirm the action in the popup.
Once disconnected, Flows.Trading immediately stops sending API requests to that broker.
Step 3 — Revoke API Access on the Broker Side #
Disconnecting in Flows.Trading is not enough — the final and essential step is revoking the API key at the exchange.
Log into your exchange account.
Navigate to API Management / API Settings.
Delete or disable the API key used for Flows.Trading.
Confirm revocation is complete.
Important: Always revoke API keys directly on the exchange after disconnecting. This guarantees no residual access remains anywhere.
2. Data Retention After Disconnection #
Even after disconnecting, Flows.Trading preserves essential information for your analysis — without storing sensitive credentials.
Trading History #
All past trades remain available in your Trading Journal.
Disconnecting a broker does not remove historical trades.
Account Information #
Connection-specific data (balance, positions) is removed.
The account no longer appears in the Accounts panel.
Charts & Analysis #
Your layouts, indicators, templates, and drawing tools remain intact.
Historical charts remain viewable, even without an active connection.
3. Security Considerations #
Disconnecting a broker is also a security measure. Here’s what happens automatically:
Immediate Revocation #
API access stops instantly once the key is deleted on the exchange.
No further trading or data requests can be made.
Session Cleanup #
Active API sessions terminate when you disconnect.
All pending API calls stop immediately.
Data Security #
No API keys, secrets, or credentials are stored after disconnection.
All connection metadata is permanently removed from Flows.Trading.
Security Reminder: Your Environment Matters #
Flows.Trading applies strong security practices—but your personal environment remains a critical part of API safety.
To protect your accounts:
Use antivirus protection.
Keep your operating system updated.
Avoid trading from unsecured or public Wi-Fi.
Use strong passwords and enable 2FA on your exchange.
Ensure your computer is free from malware or keyloggers.
Note: The security of your hardware and network environment is your responsibility. Even with perfectly configured API permissions, an insecure device can compromise your account.
