8.3 Connecting a Broker

Connecting your broker to Flows.Trading takes only a few minutes and unlocks the full potential of the platform: real-time market data, seamless order execution, unified account management, automatic journaling, and a professional trading environment that works identically across every supported broker.

This guide walks you through the process step-by-step — simple, safe, and beginner-friendly.

Step 1 — Navigate to Broker Settings #

There is one place to access all broker connections:

✔ From the Settings Menu #

  1. Open the main sidebar menu.
  2. Go to Settings → Brokers.

This opens the Broker Management panel where all integrations are handled.

Step 2 — Select Your Broker #

From the list of supported brokers:

  • Select the broker you want to connect.

  • Review any broker-specific notes, limitations, or required permissions.

  • Proceed by clicking Connect or Continue.

Each broker has its own API rules, but the flow inside Flows.Trading stays consistent.

Step 3 — Generate Your API Credentials #

Flows.Trading connects to your broker using API Keys.
You generate these keys directly from your broker’s website.

On your broker’s website #

(Menus vary slightly, but follow the same logic.)

  1. Log in to your broker/exchange account.
  2. Go to API Management or API Settings
    (commonly found under Account, Security, or Profile).
  3. Click Create API Key or Generate New Key.
  4. Configure the permissions:

Enable (required): #

  • Read account information

  • Read trading history

  • Place orders

  • Cancel/modify orders

Disable (for safety): #

  • Withdrawals

  • Transfers

  • Sub-account management

  1. If available, set IP Whitelisting:

    • Restrict API usage to specific IP addresses for stronger protection.

    • If unsure, you can configure it later.
  2. Copy your API credentials:

    • API Key

    • API Secret

⚠️ Important: Many brokers display the API Secret only once.
Save it immediately — losing it means generating a new key.

Step 4 — Enter Credentials in Flows.Trading #

  1. Return to Flows.Trading → Settings → Brokers.
  2. Select your broker.
  3. Paste your API Key.
  4. Paste your API Secret.
  5. Confirm that the permissions match what Flows.Trading requires.

Step 5 — Test the Connection #

  1. Click Test Connection or Connect.
  2. Flows.Trading verifies your API key and permissions.
  3. Once validated, the system checks:

    • Data access

    • Trading capabilities

    • Account status

  4. You will see confirmation with:

    • Account balance

    • Available funds

    • Connection status

Your broker is now active.

Step 6 — Activation & Sync #

Once connected:

  • Real-time data synchronization starts automatically.

  • Trading tools inside the Charting & Trading Space are unlocked.

  • Your account balance appears in the Accounts panel.

  • All future trades are automatically logged in the Trading Journal.

You’re fully integrated and ready to trade.

Security Notice (Read This Carefully) #

While Flows.Trading is built with strict security standards, the security of your computer, network, and operating environment remains entirely your responsibility.
If your device is compromised (malware, keyloggers, remote access tools, infected extensions, etc.), your API keys and accounts could be exposed — regardless of the platform you use.

To protect yourself:

  • Keep your system updated and use trusted antivirus/anti-malware tools.

  • Avoid installing unknown software, browser extensions, or downloaded scripts.

  • Only use Flows.Trading on a secure, private device — never on shared or public computers.

  • Always secure your API keys and rotate them regularly.

Flows.Trading cannot be held responsible for breaches caused by an unsecured device or environment. Ensuring your system’s security is an essential part of safe trading.

API keys remain under your responsibility.
For maximum safety:

✔ Use trading-only API keys #

Never enable withdrawals.

✔ Store API secrets securely #

Use a password manager.

✔ Use IP Whitelisting if your broker supports it #

This blocks unauthorized access.

✔ Regenerate keys periodically #

Delete unused or old API keys.

✔ Never share your API credentials #

Flows.Trading staff will never ask for them.

This ensures your funds and accounts remain protected at all times.
