Your trading results aren’t just numbers — they’re insights waiting to be revealed.
The Journal Space in Flows.Trading turns your trading history into a visual and interactive workspace.
It’s made up of gadgets — modular widgets that each serve a specific analytical purpose: P&L tracking, win rate, asset distribution, transaction history, and more.
The layout is fully customizable: you can move, resize, and organize gadgets on a structured grid to build a personal dashboard that fits your trading style.
By the end of this guide, you’ll know how to:
Understand what gadgets are and how they work.
Enter Edit Layout mode to rearrange and resize them.
Add or remove gadgets to tailor your workspace.
Reset your dashboard if you want to start over.
The Journal Toolbar #
At the top-left corner of the Journal Space, you’ll find three key buttons that control your layout:
| Button | Description |
|---|---|
| Edit / Save Layout | Toggles layout editing mode. Click Edit Layout to enable gadget movement and resizing. When finished, click Save Layout to confirm your changes. |
| Reset Layout | Restores the default gadget arrangement. |
| Add Gadget | Opens the gadget selector to add new widgets to your dashboard. |
These controls let you explore and customize your workspace freely — knowing you can always confirm, reset, or add components at any time.
Step 1 – Understanding Gadgets #
Each gadget represents a specific aspect of your trading performance.
They can display numbers, charts, tables, or summaries, all powered by your trading data.
A few common gadgets include:
P&L (Σ): Realized and unrealized profit/loss over different timeframes.
Win Rate: Displays your success percentage based on recent trades.
Equity Curve: Visualizes account value growth or decline.
Transactions: Lists all trades, deposits, fees, and withdrawals.
Assets: Shows your portfolio composition.
Profitable Tickers: Highlights your best and worst instruments.
Metrics per Period: Groups results by week, month, or custom timeframe.
Each gadget can be added, repositioned, and resized — all within the predefined grid layout.
Step 2 – Entering Edit Mode #
To start customizing your dashboard:
- Click Edit Layout.
- You’ll see the layout grid activate — gadgets now become draggable and resizable.
- You can:
- Move gadgets by dragging their header.
- Resize gadgets by dragging their edges or corners.
Gadgets snap automatically to the grid and cannot overlap, keeping your workspace organized and easy to read.
💡 Try it now: Enter edit mode, drag your P&L gadget to the top row, and resize your Transactions widget to occupy more width below.
When your layout looks right, click Save Layout to confirm the new arrangement.
This doesn’t create a separate layout — it simply updates your current workspace structure.
Step 3 – Adding Gadgets #
You can add new analytics components at any time.
- Click Add Gadget (➕).
- A selection window appears, listing all available widgets.
- Choose one or several gadgets from the list.
- Click Add — they’ll appear in your workspace grid.
💡 Tip: Add only the widgets that matter most to you — a clean, focused dashboard makes it easier to interpret your data quickly.
After adding gadgets, enter Edit Layout again if you want to reposition or resize them.
Step 4 – Resetting the Layout #
If you ever want to return to the default arrangement, click Reset Layout (🔄).
This will restore the Journal Space to its original state — all default gadgets in their standard positions.
Your data remains intact; only the visual arrangement resets.
💡 Use case: You’ve experimented heavily with custom arrangements and want a fresh start — one click brings everything back to its default structure.
Step 5 – Connecting Your Broker #
The Journal Space pulls its data directly from your connected brokers.
If you see the message “To access the trading journal, please log in to a broker,” it means the journal is waiting for live data.
To unlock it:
- Go to the Brokers panel in the Charting Space.
- Log in to your broker account (e.g., Binance, Coinbase, OKX).
- Once connected, your trades, balances, and fees will sync automatically.
From there, your Journal gadgets will populate with real data — updated continuously as you trade.
Conclusion #
The Trading Journal Space is your performance command center.
With its modular gadgets and editable layout, you can build a workspace that helps you see exactly what drives your results.
Use Edit Layout to shape your dashboard, Add Gadget to expand it, and Reset Layout to start fresh anytime.
Once your journal reflects your workflow, performance tracking becomes intuitive — and learning from your trades becomes second nature.
